i'm a hater first and a lover second

whenever there's a choice between good news and bad news, i always opt to hear the bad news first. i feel like ending a conversation on a more positive note is the overall feeling that i'll take away from the whole thing.

in that respect, here are some randoms that are collecting dust in my cerebrum:

i hate:

- that american express keeps sending me their ridiculous departures magazine. we are certainly not the black card holding type who care about which private jet company offers the best service or where to eat when exploring the south of france.

- those disgusting yellow balls that fall off the tree in front of my apartment building and smell like rotten ass whenever someone steps on them and smushes the gooey parts into the sidewalk.

- that it's damn near impossible to find a cute-ish looking pair of winter boots for a little girl. princess wands, sparkles, and peace signs are never appropriate decor for a self-respecting toddler.

- that my neighbors smoke like chimneys around their little kid and i always keep my thoughts to myself about it and then have to vent to my husband about how disgusting i think it is.

- that writing gigs pay like shit, or are for shit that i don't want to write about.

on a lighter note, i love:

- when somebody who can't count works in the pastry department at my job and i get to bring home the extra portions of chocolate banana bread pudding with salted caramel sauce.

- (and i know i've said this before) that my kid is so chill when i blast some loud music in the car that she just continues babbling cheerily and in no way is bothered by my horrific singing.

- that the holidays are coming up and i can cook all kinds of fun things for the families. i think pumpkin spaetzle is going to be on the menu for sure, and i mean fresh pumpkin that i have to clean and roast and everything.

- that this time of year there's a million scary movies on tv. i love me some ghost stories, even if that paranormal activity movie was less than terrifying.

- that i can talk about this kind of stuff and that there's people out there who get it. thanks internet, for introducing me to all of my lovely bloggy friends!

how about you, what's on your lists today?

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" came on the radio the other day, and I turned it up. I caught my five-year-old in the back seat rocking out to it a couple of times from the corner of my eye, but he would deny it whenever I called him on it.

The eight year old daughter just rolled her eyes and was like "whatever".

If you find boots, tell me where you got them. I've been on the look out for Max for weeks now. She has flips flops and tye dyed crocs right now...ick.

mjenks- i'm pretty sure your kid is already cooler than me. isn't he the one who coined the phrase 'triple fuck'? bad. ass.

bs & bc- right?! it's so gross but at the same time not really appropriate to say anything if it doesn't directly affect you.

erin- my cousin got some cute ones at the land's end baby section of sears. they were a waterproof suede/nubuck type material. i've looked at them online, but i really want to have her try them on. guess i'll be driving the 30+ miles to the closest store.

mr. c- eewww! me either. i think that's just because i don't like how it sounds.

cuz- what is with that shit?! so annoying. i even spent an afternoon at the mall with my mom, who was going to buy whatever i liked, and still came up with nothing!

sal- pumpkin and nutmeg and clove and cinnamon, yum!! although, when it's truly winter i think my favorite smell is those spruce/pine candles. i can't get enough of them.

Ever notice that today's scary movies aren't anywhere near as scary as they used to be?

Or maybe we're all just jaded...lol.

These days, I just hope for something coherent...

And you're right. Writing pays for shit. We must be masochists...

jules- i so wish i could send you a sample, but i'm scared of the post office charging me with mail terrorism or something.

skitch- i think you're right. b compares everything to the haunting and it's never as good :)

those balls are from gingko trees. We have them here too. Makes you rethink the gingko biloba supplements, no?

I hate when someone comes up and asks me if i need help in a retail store 1238012938129038 times.

I now love chocolate banana bread pudding with salted caramel sauce. Because that sounds like the most amazing thing ever. I must taste it!

lora- so i'm not crazy!! they smell sooooo bad :(

lola- yes!! i hate that so much! and i would love to give you the recipe except that i can't bake for shit. i can, however, devour about four of those suckers in one sitting.
